Workplace Readiness Skills Put to Test
Posted on 10/30/2020
Hampton Roads Public Works Academy Students ranging from Cybersecurity, Automotive and Constructions Trades programs were revved up and ready to go apply skills learned in their CCAP programs for an interview with the Hampton Roads Public Works Academy. The Workplace Readiness Skills Task List definitely helped these students prepare for a virtual interview with the Executive Board Member of the Hampton Roads Public Works Academy (HRPWA), LeeAnn Azar. Each year, Hampton Roads Public Works Academy (HRPWA) interview interested candidates for participation in the Cadet program.

Due to Covid-19, our students will be participating in our HRPWA program in a virtual prerecorded setting.  The Subject Matter Experts (SME) have agreed to prerecord their sessions, which are based on a variety of career fields that align with CCAP programs. The students are required to view the sessions and provide feedback to the SMEs via hyperlinks provided by  Mrs. Parker, School Counseling Director at CCAP.  She will be monitoring the program to ensure communication between the SMEs and the students is clear and well structured.

HRPWA is a not-for-profit regional coalition promoting cooperative training in the various disciplines comprising Public Works and Utilities in Southeastern Virginia. One of their primary objectives is to educate area high school students with the goal of becoming future pre-trained Public Works and Utilities employees in various career fields and/or to provide them with workplace readiness skills.

HRPWA has provided former CCAP student interns the opportunity to work full-time for The City of Suffolk and Hampton Roads Sanitation department in the fields of technology, mechanics, construction and administration. HRPWA also awards scholarships for students who plan to attend college.

Congratulations to the 2020-2021 HRPWA Cadets!
