Student Presentation

The students of the Young Chefs Academy were on full display for their luncheon, which was the culminating activity for the summer culinary arts program, sponsored by the Western Tidewater Community Services Board. Student Julina Hill shared program highlights before guests enjoyed a lunch that included roasted chicken, orzo with parmesan and basil, honey-garlic carrots, coleslaw, and a golden-crusted peach cobbler served with coffee for dessert. Teacher Mona Rawls assisted the budding chefs as they displayed new skills by preparing and serving lunch for the administrative staffs of The College and Career Academy at Pruden and the Western Tidewater Community Services Board. Nine adult students participated in the 6-week pilot program and eight students received a certificate of completion and a ServSafe® Food Handler’s certification.
