Students Apply Knife Skills Techniques Learned in ClassWatching Top Chef  will not provide you with the skills necessary to become a Chef. Mastering basic knife skills is a learned skill through teaching, observation, and application. Chef Maia Jones, CCAP’s Culinary Arts teacher ensures that her students understand how to choose and use knives for basic cutting techniques.

Chef Jones uses food items such as carrots and garlic, just to name a few, to demonstrate knife skills, which include how to safely hold a knife, as well as how to cut various food items. Students are cutting garlic in this particular practice. They will soon be assessed on knife skills via food presentation. Knife skills are important in the culinary industry; it helps as it relates to uniformity to aid in food cost and also customer satisfaction.
